December Birthstone

Lapis Lazuli, Tanzanite, Turquoise and Blue Topaz is the December Birthstone.  December has the most options of gems as a birthstone.  These gemstones are also nicknamed The Winter Blues because all of the gemstones listed are of different shades of blue.

Lapis Lazuli gemstones are rich dark blue in color.  Many Lapis gemstones are found with streaks of gold or silver in them.  These are the gold or silver Pyrite gemstones embedded within the stone.

Lapis Lazuli are said to bring their wearer intuition, wisdom and compassion.

Tanzanite gemstones come in shades of blue and purple.  The Tanzanite gemstone can only be found in Tanzania, hence the name.

Tanzanite are said to bring their wearer compassion and communication.

Turquoise gemstones can be found in an array of different colors, from white to green to the most common blue.

Topaz gemstones comes in an array of different colors, but only the Blue Topaz are considered the December Birthstone.  The shade of blue the Topaz is and the clarity determines the value of the Topaz.  Swiss Blue Topaz is of a brilliant bright blue in color and London Blue Topaz a darker more vibrant blue is the more valuable of the different types of Blue Topaz.
